SCSU Men's Indoor Track & Field Wins Four Events At Williams Sutherland Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's indoor track & field had a solid showing at the William Sutherland Invitational, winning four events.

Divine Edwards (Hartford, Conn.) won the 200 Meter Dash, while freshman Nolan Freeman (New Milford, Conn.) won his first collegiate race in the 55 Meters. Kenneth Okoye (Saugus, Mass.) and Jason Sawicki (West Haven, Conn.) tied in the High Jump in first place while Oliver Hayes (Ridgefield, Conn.) won the Pole Vault.

WEIGHT THROW
Gary Robinson, Jr. led the Owls with a second-place finish in the Weight Throw event. Robinson marked a distance of 55'6 ½".

POLE VAULT
Southern took the top three spots, and four of the top six, in the Pole Vault led by Oliver Hayes in first place at 14'7 ¼". Hayden Rovelli followed at 14'1 ¼" while Shane Smith recorded a 13'1 ½". Dylan Torok was sixth at 11'1 ¾".

SHOT PUT
Southern took five of the top seven spots in the Shot Put, led by Bernardo Mbaya's throw of 53'5.5" for second place. Cameron Belton was third at 51'1.75", while Nataneal Barbosa Torres finished fourth with a distance of 50'6.25" and Mekhi Barnett posted a distance of 49'1" for fifth place. Adelino Daveiga finished seventh with a distance of 45'7.75".

HIGH JUMP
Kenneth Okoye and Jason Sawicki tied for first place in the High Jump with a height of 6'2".

44 METER DASH
Making his collegiate debut, Nolan Freeman won the 55 Meter Dash with a time of 6.51, besting the second-place finisher by .17.

55 METER HURDLES
Jared Russo finished second overall with a time of 8.01 in the 55 Meter Hurdles.

400 METER DASH
Southern grabbed two of the top three spots in the 400 Meter Dash as Ty Phelan finished second with a time of 53.02 while Carlum Caldwell was third at 53.57.

200 METER DASH
Divine Edwards won the 200 Meter Dash with a time of 23.41, finishing .13 ahead of the second-place runner.

UP NEXT
Southern is back in action next weekend when it competes in UMass Lowell's Riverhawk Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 and Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic on Saturday, Jan. 28.
