Southern Connecticut gymnastics opens the 2023 season on Sunday, Jan. 8 when it travels to West Chester, Pa. to take on West Chester University and University of Bridgeport at the Sturzebecker Health Science Center at 1 p.m.

Gymnastics East Conference Preseason Poll
Southern was picked to finish sixth in the 2023 Gymnastics East Conference Preseason Poll, as announced by the conference on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022. The preseason poll is based on ranking projections given by the head coaches of the eight GEC schools.
 
Owls Notes
  • At the inaugural GEC Championships last season, the Owls broke the program record with its highest team score in program history while finishing fifth in the eight-team field.
  • Southern posted a combined score of 194.200 while also breaking the program record in the vault and bars events.
  • The Owls will replace All-GEC performers Bianca Leon, Chelsea Baker and Cassidy Girolamo.
  • Both Baker and Leon competed at USA Gymnastics Nationals and earned All-American honors.
  • In addition to Baker and Leon, Molly Froman also received All-American honors. 
  • The Owls will feature returning standouts Hanna Zebdi, Brooke Burkhart, Angel Lee, Emelia Diaz, Sidney Wilson, Lexi Bracher, Froman and Audrey Arnold, all of who competed at USA Gymnatics Nationals last season.
  • Zebdi was an All-GEC Second Team selection on the Vault and Floor, Burkhart earned Vault Second Team honors while Lee and Diaz were named to the Beam Second Team. 
  • Also returning to the Owls lineup is two-time USAG All-American Hannah Stahlbrodt, who missed most of last season after suffering an injury during competition.
  • Stahlbrodt's is the program's recordholder in the All-Around and Bars and was the 2019 ECAC Athlete of the Year. 
 
Up Next
Following its tri-meet against West Chester and Bridgeport, the Owls will travel to University Park, Pa. to compete in a tri-meet at Penn State with LIU.
 
Home Opener
Southern will host Springfield on Saturday, Jan. 21 for the first of two home meets for the 2023 season. The Owls and the Pride will face-off at 2 p.m. at James Moore Field House, with live video available.
