PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Southern Connecticut gymnastics opened the 2026 season with a second-place finish at Brown University's Quad Meet, which also featured Rhode Island College and Springfield College. The Owls totaled 190.725 points and finished ahead of RIC (189.325) and Springfield (183.425) and behind Brown (193.025).
First-year transfer standout Lola Sepulveda led the Owls with an All-Around score of 38.575. Sepulveda was among the Owls top-three scorers in all four events including a personal-best 9.70 on the Floor Exercise. Jordan Villani also compiled an All-Arounds core of 37.725 including a team-best 9.700 on the Vault for third place. Angelina Stanfa had the Owls highest score of the afternoon with a 9.850 for a tie of first place on the Floor.
VAULT
Villani finished third overall on the Vault with a score of 9.700 while Hannah Fitzgerald finished tied for fourth with a 9.675. Sepulveda was tied for sixth with a 9.60 while Ava Kelly, Zoe Axell and Gianna Schibi both posted scores of 9.425.
UNEVEN PARALLEL BARS
Freshman Gianna Schibi made a statement in her collegiate debut with a 9.675 on the Bars, which was good for second place. Sepulveda was third at 9.575 while Hannah Fitzgerald was 10th with a 9.30.
BALANCE BEAM
2025 All-American Gabriela Dinisoe finished third with a team-best 9.775 on the Beam while Sepulveda was fifth with a 9.650. Stanfa and Mia Damiano were tied for seventh with a 9.535.
FLOOR EXERCISE
Stanfa finished tied for first with a meet-best 9.850 while Zoe Axell was tied for ninth at 9.725. Sepulveda was 11th with a 9.700 followed by Villani with a 9.675.
Southern is back in action when it hosts its first home meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 11 against RIC, Springfield and Utica at 1 p.m. at James Moore Field House. Before the meet, the Owls will welcome back the 1976 SCSU Men's Gymnastics team in celebration of the program's 50th anniversary of its last NCAA National Championship.
