NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut State volleyball fell to Adelphi University, 3-0 on Tuesday night in an NE10 matchup. Southern dropped to an overall record of 11-11, with a conference record of 1-4. Adelphi improved to an overall record of 14-5, with a conference record of 3-1.
Despite the final scoreline, it was a tight and competitive match for both teams. Adelphi took the first set closely over Southern, 25-23. The Owls continued to fight for points but the Panthers got the two-set lead with a scoreline of 26-24. In the final set, Southern jumped to an early lead; however, Adelphi came back and pulled away with a final scoreline of 25-21, to get the victory.
First-year
Carissa Michel led the team with her second double-double of the season with 11 kills and 10 digs, while
Ahunna James followed closely behind with nine kills of her own. Senior
Sara Enright added three kills and four service aces for the Owls.
Aubrey Villena led the team with 16 digs and a service ace, as first-year
Victoria Pascual had a career-best of 10 digs. First-year Owls
Kendall Webber,
Ahunna James and
Victoria Pascual each had two blocks against the Panthers.
Dylan Marney had two service aces for Southern and
Lily Miller recorded a season-best of 25 assists.
Southern returns to action on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6:00 p.m. in Waltham, Mass. against NE10 opponent, Bentley University.
