SCSU Women's Soccer Falls To Saint Anselm, 3-1; Clinches 8th Seed In NE10 Tournament

The Southern Connecticut women's soccer team lost to Saint Anselm, 2-1, in the 2023 Northeast-10 Conference season finale at Jess Dow Field. With the loss, Southern ends the regular season at 5-6-5 overall and 3-4-4 in the NE10 while Saint Anselm concludes the year at 7-5-5 overall and 5-4-2 in conference play.

With 13 points in the conference standings the Owls clinch the 8th and final seed in the NE10 Championship tournament. The Owls will travel to NE10 top-seeded Saint Rose on Sunday, Nov. 5 for a quarterfinal matchup set for a 2 p.m. start.

Victoria Vera scored the Owls only goal in the game after a beautiful play by Southern. Alexie Rosado started the play when she took the ball from a Hawks' midfielder, cut across the field and handed it Kelsey Burr. Burr carried the ball to the center of the field, 10 yards out from the box, and then led Taylor Hennig to the left of the Saint Anselm goal. Hennig in turn centered a pass to Vera who one-touched it past Saint Anselm's keeper to put the Owls on the board and tie the game at 1-1.

In goal, Abby Aughe stopped nine of Saint Anselm's 12 shots on goal, with the Hawks' third goal coming in the closing minutes of the game. Hennig picked up her team-leading sixth assist of the year while Burr converted on her third. Vera's goal was her second of the year.
