SCSU Women's Basketball Defeated by Assumption University, 77-59

WORCESTER, Mass. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball was defeated by No. 6 Assumption University, 77-59, on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action. Southern dropped to an overall record of 1-2 and an NE10 record of 0-1. Assumption improved to an overall record of 2-0 and an NE10 record of 1-0.

The Greyhounds started shooting well in the first quarter and never let up as they headed into the second quarter. In the second quarter, Assumption continued to have a large lead but Southern began to find their way with points. In the third quarter, the Owls came ready out of the locker room as they started to inch closer to the Greyhounds' lead. In the fourth quarter, Southern outscored Assumption, 30-16; however, the Greyhounds held onto their lead to get the victory. 

Delaney Haines led the team with 16 points, five rebounds, two steals, a block and an assist. Renza Milner recorded 12 points, five rebounds, two steals and an assist against the Greyhounds. Hope Fox had nine points, a team-best of eight rebounds and a team-best of seven steals. 

Katie Williamson and Makenzie Helms both scored six points, as Williamson grabbed seven rebounds and a team-best of three blocks. Helms had dished out a team-best of four assists for the Owls. In addition, Williamson and Haines were perfect from the free-throw line. Jillian Martin scored five points and had three assists. Ashley Evans had three assists, three rebounds, two points and two blocks against Assumption. 

Southern returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 21 against NE10 opponent, Adelphi University, in the James Moore Field House, at 5:30 p.m.
