SCSU Men's Basketball Falls To Adelphi, 69-66

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball fell to Adelphi, 69-66, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the loss, Southern dropped to 3-2 overall and 0-2 in the NE10 while Adelphi improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
 
Marty Silvera scored a game-high 27 points with seven assists and four steals. Silvera on 10-of-20 from the floor and 3-of-6 from three-point range. Kazell Stewart had 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks while Cherif Diarra had a game-high nine rebounds with six points as well as five steals.
 
Southern opened the game with a 9-0 run, keyed by seven points from Silvera. A three-pointer from McGettigan gave the Owls a 12-2 lead before Adelphi answered with an 11-0 run to take a 13-12 lead with 13:20 to play in the first half. With just under 10 minutes to play in the half, Adelphi scored on back-to-back possessions to take an 18-14 lead and didn't trail for the remainder of the half. The Panthers took a 32-30 lead into the break.
 
Coming out of halftime, both teams traded baskets before Southern tied the game at 39-39 with 15 minutes to play. Adelphi used a 16-6 run to take a 54-45 lead with 10 to play before pushing its lead to 11 points, 64-53, with five minutes to play. Southern got back into the game with a 13-6 push in the closing minutes, highlighted by six points from Stewart, but a turnover on its final possession sealed Adelphi's 69-66 win.   
 
Southern returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 29 when it travels to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International at 7:30 p.m.
