SCSU Women's Basketball Defeated by American International College

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball was defeated by American International College, 65-52 in an NE10 matchup on Wednesday night. Southern dropped to an overall record of 2-4 and an NE10 record of 1-2. American International improved to an overall record of 4-1 and an NE10 record of 2-1. 

From the jump ball, the Yellowjackets and Owls knew that it would be a back-and-forth game. Southern took back the lead after an early American International lead, resulting in the scoreline being 15-13 in favor of the Owls. In the second quarter, both teams scored 12 points each, however, Southern headed into halftime with a two-point advantage. In the third quarter, the Yellowjackets began to pull away with the lead. In the fourth quarter, the Owls worked to get points back; but, American International held on to the victory.

Julianna Bonilla and Katie Williamson both led the team with 13 points. Bonilla made a team-best of three three-pointers and had three rebounds. Williamson was one of the team leaders in rebounds with six rebounds of her own. Renza Milner followed closely behind with eight points of her own, including a team-best of four made free-throws. Makenzie Helms and Jillian Martin both scored seven points for the Owls. Helms led the team with three assists while Martin had a team-best of seven rebounds. 

Hope Fox, Renza Milner and Jillian Martin all recorded two assists against American International. Fox and Milner each had four rebounds for Southern. 

The Owls return to action on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 1:30 p.m. against NE10 opponent, The College of Saint Rose in the James Moore Field House.
