Box Score PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball beat previously undefeated NE10 opponent, Pace University, 57-47 on Tuesday night. Southern improved to an overall record of 3-5 and an NE10 record of 2-3, while Pace dropped to an overall record of 7-1 and an NE10 record of 4-1.
In the first quarter, Pace jumped to a hot start with a scoreline of 15-9 in favor of the Setters. In the second quarter, the Owls outscored Pace, 19-7, going into the half. In the third quarter, Southern continued to extend their lead with 14 points of ther own over the Setters' 10 points. In the fourth quarter, both teams scored 15 points each, with Pace coming close to Southern's lead. However, the Owls held on to their 10 point lead, to get the strong victory.
Delaney Haines led the team with 15 points, shooting a team-best of 6-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the three point line. In addition, Haines recorded two rebounds and an assist for the Owls.
Makenzie Helms scored a season-best of 13 points against Pace. The guard shot a team-best of 6-for-11 from the field, grabbed seven rebounds and dished a team-best of four assists.
Katie Williamson recorded 12 points, was a team-best of 100% from the free-throw line, grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, had a team-best of three blocks and had a season-best of two steals.
As a team, Southern out-rebounded Pace, 44-34.
Julianna Bonilla had seven points, recorded four rebounds and made two three-pointers against the Setters.
Jillian Martin and
Renza Milner both had three points, as Martin had four rebounds and Milner had five rebounds.
Hope Fox grabbed six rebounds as
Ashley Evans grabbed three rebounds of her own.
The Owls return to action on Saturday, Dec. 9 against non-conference opponent, the University of Bridgeport at 12:00 p.m. in the James Moore Field House.
