MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Southern Connecticut baseball swept a doubleheader against Felician, 9-5 and 6-4, in a non-conference matchup at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Owls improved to 4-1 on the year while Felician dropped to 3-5.

Connor Goggin (Prospect, Conn.) and Billy Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) led the Owls' offensive attack with four hits each in the double. All four of Goggin's hits went for extra bases after he connected for his first home run of the season and also had three doubles. Goggin drove in three runs and scored three more. Sullivan scored five of the Owls' runs on the day while also stealing three bases. On the mound, Steve Phillips (Watertown, Conn.) picked up the win in the first game after pitching the Owls to a lead through 5 1/3. Spencer Fox (Manchester, Conn.) was dominant in relief over the final 3 2/3, holding Felician to a single hit while striking out six.

In the second game, Tommy Benincaso (Norwalk, Conn.) took the no-decision after allowed three runs on five hits over five innings in his first start with the Owls, before Peter Phillips picked up the win in relief. Tommy Hughes also converted on his second-straight save appearance of the season.

The second game saw a back-and-forth battle that saw Southern Connecticut overcome a 3-1 deficit after the third inning. In the fourth, Chad Fedeli (Monroe, Conn.) drove in Goggin to cut Felician's lead to 3-2. In the fifth, Goggin's double drove in Jake Gruttadauria (Trumbull, Conn.) and Sullivan to give Southern a 4-3 lead. After a sixth inning home run by Felician tied it up, the Owls capitalized on an error before Gruttadauri drove in Izaiah Walker (Yonkers, N.Y.) to give them a 5-4 lead before Derrick Jagello (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch to give Southern a 6-4 lead.

Hughes came on in the seventh to slam the door on Felician, pitching out of a bases loaded jam to strike out the last batter looking.
