Mike Ferrett Homers Twice As SCSU Baseball Defeats Alliance

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut baseball defeated Alliance University, 21-4, in a non-conference game in Boca Raton, Fla. With the win, Southern improved to 8-2 overall while Alliance dropped to 1-11 on the season.

Mike Ferrett (Hamden, Conn.) blasted two home runs and drove in six runs in the Owls' victory while Nick Guarino (East Haven, Conn.) spun six solid innings on the mound to improve to 3-1 on the season. Guarino held Alliance to four hits while striking out four and gave up three unearned runs in the game. Andrew Eng (Ridgewood, N.J.) was 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI and three runs scored.

Southern trailed in the game, 3-2, through the fourth inning before Ferrett's first dinger of the season tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. In the sixth, Southern scored five runs, highlighted by a two-run double by Ferrett, while Billy Sullivan, Colin Mason and Jack Drewry also drove home runs in the inning. Both Sullivan and Mason had two hits in the game, while Mason drove in two runs in the effort.

The seventh inning saw the Owls' offense score 13 runs to push the game to a Mercy Rule. Southern saw 10 different players drive in runs in the inning, with Ferrett connecting for a three-run shot to punctuate his day. Owls' starters Derrick Jagello, Zach Bedryczuk and Chad Fedeli all drove in runs in the game while Fedeli had two RBI and two runs scored as Bedryczuk was 2-for-4 with three runs scored. Reserves Zack Healey, Izaiah Walker, Connor Powell and Jake Gruttadauria also all drove in runs in the Owls win. Aidan Ricciardelli also pitched the seventh inning in relief, allowed a run on one hit.

  • Ferrett has now hit safely in seven straight games, the longest active streak in the Owls' lineup.
  • Ferrett is now tied with Connor Goggin with a team-high 12 RBI.
  • Ferrett also has five hits in his last eight at-bats with six RBI and four runs scored in two games.
