SCSU Softball Defeats Molloy, 5-3, At The Spring Games

LEESBURG, Fla. – Southern Connecticut softball opened the third day of The Spring Games with a 5-3 win against Molloy at The Spring Games in Leesburg, Fla. With the win, Southern improved to 2-5 overall while Molloy dropped to 6-5 on the year.

Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) was 3-for-3 with a run scored while Jessica Perucki (Flemington, N.J.) picked up the win on the mound and also blasted a two-run homer to help her cause. Gabby Festa (Patchogue, N.Y.) drove in two runs with a triple.

After Molloy took an early 2-0 lead, Southern broke through in the bottom of the 2nd. Perucki worked a walk after a 13-pitch at-bat that saw her foul-off eight pitches before taking her base on balls. Festa then followed with a line drive to center field past the Molloy defender for a triple to drive home Perucki with the Owls first run. Festa then scored on Dominique DeLutri's ground ball to short.

In the 3rd, Dumont lined a one-out single up the middle before Perucki turned on the first pitch she saw of her at-bat and drove it over the left-center field fence for her first home run of the season to give Southern a 4-2 lead. The Owls tacked on another run in the 5th when a ball hit by Festa was misplayed at second, allowing Rachel Miller to score from second.
