SCSU Softball Falls To Minnesota Crookston, 2-1

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Southern Connecticut softball lost to University of Minnesota Crookston, 2-1, in a non-conference matchup in Kissimee, Fla. With the loss, Southern drops to 3-6 on the year while Crookston improves to 12-13.

Jessica Perucki (West Milford, Conn.) threw another gem but an error in the fourth inning accounted for two unearned runs against the Owls' hurler. Perucki allowed just five hits in six innings of work while striking out eight, and also added a hit at the plate. Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) continued to swing the hot bat for the Owls as she posted a 2-for-2 day. Alex Tenero (Wallingford, Conn.) picked up her first career RBI.

Southern made a run at in the top of the seventh when Nadia Cestari (Naugatuck, Conn.) reached on a field error before Gabby Festa (Patchogue, N.Y.) came in to run for her. Dominique DeLutri (North Bellmore, N.Y.) blasted a double to move Festa to third and then scored on a ground ball to second base by Tenero. Trailing by a run, the Owls couldn't get the equalizer across the plate.

Southern will play its final game at The Spring Games on Thursday, Mar. 16 against University of Indianapolis at 9 a.m. in Leesburg, Fla.
