SCSU Baseball Falls To Post, 10-2

BOCA RATON, Fla.  – Southern Connecticut baseball lost to Post, 10-2, in a non-conference game in Boca Raton, Fla. With the loss, Southern dropped to 11-5 on the season while Post improved to 10-11.

Jack Drewry (Wolcott, Conn.) was 3-for-3 while Billy Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Colin Mason (Flemington, N.J.) was also 2-for-4 while Andrew Eng (Ridgewood, N.J.) drove in a run for Southern and Zach Bedryczuk (Beacon Falls, Conn.) had a run scored. Mike Szturma (Beacon Falls, Conn.) took the hard-luck loss after three errors allowed five unearned runs to score against the Owls' starter in the fifth inning of an otherwise solid outing. Szturma, up to that point, had give up a run on five hits. Brandon La Mazza (Throgs Neck, N.Y.) and Chad Fedeli (Monroe, Conn.) each logged a scoreless inning with two strikeouts each.

The Owls and Eagles played back-and-forth with the Owls scoring first in the third inning, before Post answered in the bottom half of the inning. In the third, Sullivan doubled and then moved to third on a single by Mason before Eng drove him home with a sacrifice fly. After Post tied the game in the bottom half of the inning, Southern took a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

Bedryczuk and Sullivan led off the inning with a pair of hits before Mason bunted them over. After Eng was intentionally walked, and Mike Ferrett was retired, Bedryczuk scored on a dropped third strike which allowed Connor Goggin to reach base.

In the bottom half of the inning, Post's first two batters reached on errors before a double drove in two runs and gave Post a 3-2 lead. Another error on the next batter cost the Owls another run before a pair of two-out hits pushed two more across as Post took a 6-2 lead. The Eagles then put together a four-run, five-hit inning in the sixth, which sealed the game for Post.

Southern is back in action with its final game in Florida against American International on Saturday, Mar. 18 at 9:30 a.m.
