Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

SCSU Women's Lacrosse Falls To Pace, 18-11

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse lost to Pace, 18-11, in a Northeast 10 Conference game at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Conn. Southern dropped to 5-3 with the loss, including a 1-3 mark in NE10 play while Pace improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the NE10.

Karlie Rowe (Niantic, Conn.) scored four goals to lead the Owls while Bayleigh Takacs (Sparta, N.J.) had two goals and four assists. Owls' leading goal scorer Kirsten McIntire (Nashua, N.H.) had her fifth three-goal game of the season for the Owls. Brianna Shaw (Branford, Conn.) had a goal and an assist as well as seven draw controls and three caused turnovers.

The game was closer than the final score indicated, with the outlier being Pace's 9-0 third quarter run. Southern led 3-2 early in the game, with two of McIntire's three goals providing the early cushion for the Owls. A pair of Pace goals in the final 4:15 of the quarter gave the Setters the one-goal edge. Both teams were even, 3-3, as the Owls went into halftime trailing by a goal, 7-6. Rowe, Takacs and Alexandra Ruel (Ivoryton, Conn.) all scored for Southern in the period.

A late second-quarter goal, and nine unanswered goals in the third quarter for Pace gave the away team a 10-0 run and a 17-6 lead. The Owls fought their way back, outscoring Pace, 5-1, in the final 12 minutes of regulation. Savannah Feinberg (Sound Beach, N.Y.) scored her 10th goal of the season early in the fourth quarter before Pace countered to make it 18-7. Rowe scored twice down the stretch, with McIntire and Takacs adding markers in the final six minutes.

In goal, Southern freshman Caelan Connors (Holbrook, Conn.) stopped 16 shots on goal. On the other end of the field, Southern converted on 11 of its 16 shots on goal against the Setters. Southern was also 15-for-16 on clears, while breaking up four attempted clears by the Setters. The draw control battle was almost even, with Pace taking a 17-15 edge.

The Owls are idle this weekend and return to action on Wednesday, Mar. 29 when they travels to Springfield, Mass. to take on American International in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup set for a 4 p.m. start.
