Originally rescheduled for Tuesday, Mar. 7, Southern Connecticut baseball's 2023 Home Opener against Mercy has been changer to Wednesday, Mar. 8 at 3 p.m. at The Ballpark at SCSU. The Owls and Knights met on Sunday, Mar. 5, with Southern Connecticut sweeping Mercy, 7-6 and 13-5. Southern enters the week with a record of 6-2 overall while Mercy is 2-10.

Weekend Recap
In the Owls' sweep of Mercy, Andrew Eng (Ridgewood, N.J.) was 3-for-6 with two doubles and three RBI, as well as four runs scored. Connor Goggin (Prospect, Conn.) also collected three hits, including his second home run of the season in the first game of the twinbill, while driving in three runs. Billy Sullivan (Valley Cottage, N.Y.) had a four-hit game in the second half of the doubleheader.

Owls Notes

• Connor Goggin currently leads the Owls in batting average (.433), doubles (3), home runs (2) and RBI (11), while also carrying a team-best .800 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage.
• Billy Sullivan is currently hitting .406 (13-32), and is tied with Goggin with 13 hits apiece. Sullivan leads Southern with 11 runs scored and three stolen bases.
• Andrew Eng has his average up to .280 (7-25) while leading the team with 10 walks and boasting a .486 on-base percentage.
• Jack Drewry is right behind Goggin with nine RBI while hitting .276 (8-29).
• On the mound, Nick Guarino improved to 2-1 on the season after his outing against Mercy. He also carries a team-best 4.24 ERA with a team-high 17 innings pitched.
• Steve Phillips is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in three starts and leads the team with 14 strikeouts in 14 2/3 innings pitched.  
• Tommy Hughes is 3-for-3 in save opportunities for the year and has now pitched back-to-back scoreless appearances while also recording 5 k's in those two appearances.
• Tyshaun Diaz is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two scoreless relief appearances while allowing just two hits and striking out four.
