Emily Lange Goes 4-for-4 As SCSU Softball Tops Pace, 3-2; Owls Split Doubleheader

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut softball split a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at Pace, bouncing back from a 4-0 loss in the first game to win the nightcap, 3-2. Southern moved to 10-16 overall and 6-8 in the NE10 while Pace moved to 16-14 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

Emily Lange was 4-for-4 with two RBI in the second game while Paige Delier recorded three hits in the doubleheader, including the Owls' only two hits in the first game. Dominique DeLutri drove in two runs in the second game while Gabby Festa scored twice.

On the mound, Emma Gorham picked up the win in the second game to improve to 5-4 on the year after holding the Setters scoreless over four innings. Gorham gave up four hits and struck out two before exiting with a 3-0 lead. Ashley Lewis logged two innings, and gave up one earned and one unearned run, before Jessica Perucki pitched the final two scoreless innings for the save. Perucki started the first game and struck-out eight over six innings.

In the second game, Southern used scored twice in the second inning to take an early lead. Festa walked to lead-off the inning before moving to second on a base hit by DeLutri. Faith Barbieri then dropped down a bunt for a single to load the bases. After Angeli Barresi and Katrina Roy were retired, Lange drove a two-out single to center field to score Festa and DeLutri to give Southern the early lead.

In the third, Festa got on base with a two-out single to left field before DeLutri doubled to scored Festa and give Southern a 3-0 lead. Pace got a run back in the fifth when the lead-off runner got on after an error and then scored on a double. Lewis got the next three batters to ground out to end the inning.

Pace threatened again in the sixth when its lead-off batter reached on a single, signaling Perucki from the bullpen. Perucki retired the first batter she faced, but a wild pitch allowed a run to score, before she settled in an pitched the Owls' out of a bases-loaded jam. Perucki then retired the side in order to slam the door on the Setters and give the Owls the win.

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Apr. 15 when it heads across town to take on the University of New Haven for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in West Haven, Conn.
