Jessica Perucki Tosses Three-Hit Shutout, SCSU Softball Splits With New Haven

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball split a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader against New Haven, winning the first game, 5-0, before the Chargers came back to win the second game of the twin bill, 4-1. Southern goes to 11-17 overall and 7-9 in the NE10 while New Haven improved to 12-23 overall and 8-8 in conference play.

SCSU Softball Highlights vs. New Haven (Apr. 14, 2023)

Jessica Perucki threw a gem in the first game as she blanked New Haven over seven innings for the complete game shutout. Perucki improved to 6-8 on the year after holding New Haven to three hits while striking out seven. At the plate, Katrina Roy was 2-for-4 with a RBI and a run scored while Gabby Festa also had a pair of hits and a RBI. Rachel Miller drove in two runs while Emily Lange was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Jacqueline Dumont also drove in a run for the Owls.

In the second game, Southern was held to just two hits, with Lange and Miller showing up in the hit column while Lange also scored the Owls lone run of the game. The Owls benefited from two errors in the third inning to score its one run. On the mound, Ashley Lewis threw 2 1/3 innings in relief, holding New Haven scoreless on one hit while striking out three.

For Lange, she has now reached base safely in eight-straight games, while recording a hit in her last three outings. In those three games, Lange is 6-for-10 with two RBI and three runs scored. Miller also hosts a three-game hitting streak in which she is 3-for-10.

Southern is back in action when it hosts Caldwell on Sunday, Apr. 16 for a non-conference doubleheader at Pelz Field at 1 p.m.
