SCSU Softball Falls To Adelphi

NEW HAVEN, CONN. – Southern Connecticut softball lost two games to Adelphi in a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at Pelz Field. The Owls went to extra innings in the first game before Adelphi squeaked out a 4-1 victory before the Panthers rolled to a 12-0 win in the second game. Southern dropped to 12-20 overall and 7-11 in the NE10 while Adelphi improved to 33-6 overall and 15-3 in conference play.

A pitcher's duel from the start, Southern's Jessica Perucki and Adelphi's Lindsey Hibbs went back and forth all afternoon. After Adelphi scored in the first inning, Perucki held the Panthers scoreless through the seventh. Hibbs was also perfect through four innings before Paige Delier broke through for the Owls with a base hit. After Perucki was hit by a pitch, Rachel Miller bunted both runners over before Gabby Festa's ground ball to short was misplayed allowing Delier to score with the game-tying run.

Perucki had retired eight straight before giving up a lead off double in the top of the 8th inning. From there, Adelphi manufactured three runs to take the win in the first game.

In the second game, the Owls were plagued by four errors that accounted for six unearned runs. Emma Gorham gave up two hits but the Panthers struck for seven runs, three of which were unearned. Ashley Lewis pitched the final three innings, and gave up five runs, only two of where earned. Emily Lange and Rachel Miller had the Owls' only two hits of the second game. Lange also had a hit in the first game to extend her hitting streak to eight games.

Southern is back in action on Thursday, Apr. 20 when it travels to Felician for a non-conference doubleheader. The Owls will then host Bentley for Senior Day on Saturday, Apr. 22 at 12 p.m. at Pelz Field.
