SCSU Softball Drops Twin Bill At Felician

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Southern Connecticut softball dropped a non-conference doubleheader at Felician, with the Golden Falcons taking the first game, 6-2, and the second game, 5-4. With the losses, Southern dropped to 12-22 on the year while Felician improved to 29-16.

Emily Lange remained the hottest bat in the Owls' lineup as she went 5-for-8 for the twin-bill, while also extending her team-, and season-best hitting streak to nine games. Lange was 2-for-4 in the first game with a RBI and 3-for-4 in the second game with a double and two runs scored. She is now 16-for-32 (.500) in her last nine games with five RBI and seven runs scored. Lange also reached base in her 14th straight game, which is also a season-best for the Owls.

Angela Barresi was 2-for-2 with a RBI in the first game while Faith Barbieri was 3-for-4 with a RBI in the second game. Jacqueline Dumont also blasted her seventh home run of the year in the second game while also driving in three runs. Dominique DeLutri was 2-for-3 in Game 2 and 1-for-2 with a run scored in the first game.

Southern actually led the first game after they scored two runs in the 6th inning after trailing, 1-0, after Felician scored in the bottom of the 1st. In the 6th, Jessica Perucki was hit by a pitch, and was replaced by Natalie Scotto. Rachel Miller bunted Scotto to second, followed by a fly out by the Owls' next batter. DeLutri moved Scotto to third with a single up the middle before Barresi drove in the game-tying run with a two-out single through the right side of the infield. Lange then singled to second base with DeLutri scoring to give Southern a 2-1 lead. Felician responded with a five-run bottom half of the inning.

In the second game, the Owls took an early lead with a run in the top of the 1st. Lange led off with a double and went to third on a single by Barbieri. Dumont then drove in Lange with a sacrifice fly to center to give Southern a 1-0 lead.

Felician claimed the lead with a three-run bottom of the 2nd, keyed by a throwing error by the Owls. Southern responded in the 3rd when Scotto tripled to right center to lead off the inning. After Lange grounded out, Barbieri singled to short to sore Scotto and pull the Owls within a run, 3-2. Felician got the run back in the bottom half of the inning after another error by the Owls resulted in the second unearned run of the game. They would plate another unearned run in the bottom of the 6th to take a 5-2 lead.

In the 7th, Lange roped a one-out single to third, followed by a pop up by Barbieri. Dumont then jumped on one and blasted a two-run shot to pull Southern within a run, 5-4, but it would end up being the last runs for the Owls.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 22 when it hosts Bentley for a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader at Pelz Field at 12 p.m. The Owls will honor Paige Delier, Jacqueline Dumont, Ally Patrella, Madison Shura, and Morgan Tuscano prior to the start of the game.
