SCSU Softball Falls To Bentley

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball dropped a doubleheader against Bentley, losing the first game, 1-0 in 10 innings, before the Falcons won the second game, 8-0 in six innings. With the two losses, Southern dropped to 12-24 overall and 7-13 in the Northeast 10 while Bentley improved to 25-12-1 overall and 16-5-1 in conference play.

The first game of the doubleheader featured a pitching duel for the ages as Southern senior Jessica Perucki and Bentley's Payton Doiron both went the distance on the mound combining for 30 strikeouts between the two of them, one earned run and 10 hits over 20 innings pitched. Perucki matched her season-best in strikeouts, for the third time, with 14 while she scattered eight hits over 10 innings and gave up one run in the top of the 10th.

At the plate, Perucki and Jacqueline Dumont were the only batters to record hits in the game, with Perucki going 1-for-2 with a double and two walks in support of her cause. Dumont had the Owls only hit in the second game.

Emily Lange extended her on-base streak to 16 consecutive games of reaching safely, while her nine-game hitting streak came to an end.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 25 when it hosts Dominican for a doubleheader at 2 p.m. at Pelz Field in New Haven, Conn. The Owls wrap up the season in Manchester, N.H. when they face Southern New Hampshire on Friday, Apr. 28 and Saint Anselm on Saturday, Apr. 29.
