SCSU Women's Lacrosse Defeats Saint Rose, 17-9

ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's lacrosse rolled to a 17-9 win at the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Albany, N.Y. With the win, the Owls improved to 9-6 overall and 4-6 in the NE10 while Saint Rose dropped to 7-9 overall and 3-7 in conference play.

Bayleigh Takacs led the Owls with five goals and three assists for eight points while Karlie Rowe had four goals and an assist. With her five goals, Takacs became just the seventh player in program history to score 100 goals in her career and now stands at 101 all-time. In addition, her single-season program assist record continues to grow as she now has 69 for her career for 170 career points, which is good for the third-most in program history. Rowe also scored the 130th goal of her career, becoming just the third player in program history to do so. She now has 165 career points and stands in fifth place all-time.

Brianna Shaw also scored three times and had a team-leading seven draw controls, while Alexandra Ruel and Kirsten McIntire both scored twice. Owls' freshman goalkeeper Caelan Connors stopped eight shots in goal for the win.

Shaw scored the first quarters only goal less than three minutes into the game. Saint Rose got on the board with back-to-back goals in the first six minutes of the second quarter to take a 2-1 lead, which was their only lead of the game. Southern countered with four-straight goals by Takacs, Rowe and a pair from McIntire, as the Owls took a 5-2 lead. Saint Rose scored twice in the final :38 seconds of the half to cut Southern's lead to a goal, 5-4, heading into the break.

In the third quarter, both teams went back in forth as Shaw scored to give Southern a 6-4 lead before the Golden Knights scored again. After Rowe scored to give Southern a 7-5 lead, Saint Rose scored two in a row to tie the game at 7-7. With 2:49 to play in the third quarter, Shaw's third goal gave the Owls the lead for good before Liney White found the back of the net to give Southern a 9-7 lead.

The fourth was all Southern Connecticut as the Owls outscored the Golden Knights, 8-2 over the final 15 minutes of play. Takacs scored four goals down the stretch, while Rowe and Ruel both scored twice to seal the win for the Owls.

Southern is down to its final two games of the regular season as they vie for a spot in the NE10 tournament. Entering the game, the Owls trailed Assumption by a game for the eighth and final spot. Southern will travel to Le Moyne on Wednesday, Apr. 26 before closing out the regular-season at home against Assumption on Saturday, Apr. 29 for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
