Dumont Homers Twice, Perucki K's 9 As SCSU Softball Splits DH Against St. Michael's

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut softball split a Northeast 10 Conference doubleheader against Saint Michael's, winning the first game, 11-2 in 5 Inn., before dropping the second game, 1-0. The Owls go to 8-12 overall and 4-4 in the NE10 while Saint Michael's moves to 7-11 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Jacqueline Dumont (Nashua, N.H.) was 4-for-6 in the doubleheader. In the first game, she was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI. Paige Delier (Milford, N.H.) was 2-for-2 with two RBI while Rachel Miller (Waterford, Conn.) was 3-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored. Katrina Roy (Bristol, Conn.) was also 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Angela Barressi (Windsor, Conn.) also drove in two runs for the fourth straight game. Emma Gorham (Ellington, Conn.) picked up the victory after holding St. Michael's scoreless for the first four innings before giving up two runs in the fifth. She was lifted in favor of Ashley Lewis who logged the final 2/3 of the inning.

In the second game, Dumont and Roy both had two hits each, but the Owls' offense never got going on the mound, Jessica Perucki (New Milford, N.J.) turned in another stellar performance after allowing six hits while striking out nine over seven innings. The only run scored in the game, off of Perucki, came on an error and was unearned.

In Game 1, Roy led off with a single before Emily Lange (Monroe, Conn.) was hit by a pitch and Dumont walked. Rachel Miller then singled to right field to score Roy. Delier hit a sacrifice fly to score Lange and Gabby Festa (Patchogue, N.Y.) doubled to left to score Dumont to give Southern a 3-0 lead. Southern added another run in the fourth when Roy stroked a two-out double and moved to third on a base hit by Lange. She scored when Lange was caught in a rundown to give Southern a 4-0 lead.

In the third, Dumont led off the inning with her first home run of the day to give Southern a 5-0 lead. Miller followed with a triple and then scored on a single by Delier to give Southern a 6-0 lead. Delier scored on a two-out single by Petrella as the Owls stacked a 7-0 lead against Saint Michael's.

In the fourth, Lange walked to lead off the inning before Dumont connected for her second dinger of the day as Southern took a 9-0 lead. Miller and Delier followed with singles, before Dominique Delutri (North Bellmore, N.Y.) reached base. Barresi then doubled down the left field line to drive home Miller and Delutri and give Southern an 11-0 lead. St. Michael's added two runs in the top of the fifth, but Southern held on for the win by Mercy Rule.

In Game 2, Perucki recorded eight strikeouts over the first three innings, with the Purple Knights scoring their lone run in the top of the first inning after the runner reached by error. Perucki settled in an retired the next nine batters in a row. From there, Perucki didn't allow another runner past second base.

Southern returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 5 when it hosts Caldwell for a non-conference doubleheader at 1 p.m. at Pelz Field.
