Southern Connecticut baseball heads to Syracuse, N.Y. for a pivotal regional matchup against Northeast 10 Conference foe Le Moyne this weekend. The Owls and Dolphins will play a four-game series on Apr. 7-8 at Dick Rockwell Field. Southern is currently 17-7 overall while Le Moyne hosts the Owls with a record of 15-11 on the season. The two teams are the final two teams to play a Northeast 10 Conference game this season as they both hit the diamond for their conference opener.

Owls Notes
  • Southern dropped two of three against Queens this week, which ended a six-game winning streak against AIC and Assumption.
  • Andrew Eng was named the NE10 Player of the Week after his historical showing against Queens. The Owls Preseason All-American blasted four home runs in a single game, becoming the first Southern Connecticut player to accomplish it.
  • In addition, he is just the second NE10 baseball player to homer four times in a game and the 33rd player in NCAA Division II history.
  • Eng is currently hitting .303 (27-89) with a team-leading nine home runs and 34 RBI as well as 31 runs scored with seven doubles. He also leads the team with 24 walks and boasts a .450 on-base percentage with a .685 slugging percentage.
  • Connor Goggin leads the team with a .393 average (35-89) with a team-best 11 doubles and two triples, as well as four home runs, 25 RBI and 26 run scored. He's also worked 15 walks and has been hit by a pitch five times for a .500 on-base percentage.
  • Goggin owns an eight-game hitting streak in which he has driven in 10 runs and scored eight more.
  • Mike Ferrett is hitting .387 (36-93) and is tied with Billy Sullivan with a team-high 36 hits. Ferrett has also totaled two home runs, nine doubles, 24 RBI and 27 runs scored.
  • Ferrett has reached base safely in 24 straight games and owns a team-best nine-game hitting streak. He also had an 11-game hitting streak earlier this season.
  • In that span he is hitting .487 (20-41) with 12 RBI and 13 runs scored.
  • Sullivan is hitting .379 (36-95) with 20 RBI and a team-high 33 runs scored. He leads the team with 13 multiple-hit games, and has hit safely in six straight.
  • Colin Mason (33-89) is hitting .371 with 26 RBI and 24 runs scored. Mason has reached base safely in 20 straight games.
  • On the mound, Nick Guarino is 6-1 with a 3.47 ERA with 37 strikeouts in 46 2/3 innings pitched. Guarino also ranks among the national leaders in fewest walks allowed, with five for the year.
  • Tommy Benincaso is 3-0 with a 5.83 ERA while Steve Phillips is 2-2 for the season.
  • Mike Szturma is coming off a solid start in which he gave up one earned run in six innings against Queens while striking out eight.
