SCSU Baseball's Sweeps Le Moyne, 21-7 and 2-1, To Open NE10 Play

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut baseball swept the first two games of its four-game set at Le Moyne, winning 21-7 and 2-1. With the two wins, Southern opens its Northeast 10 Conference schedule at 2-0 while improving to 19-7 on the season.

In the first game of the day, Derrick Jagello (Naugatuck, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with a home run, two walks, three RBI and a program record six runs scored in a nine-inning game. Zack Healy drove in four runs and scored three more as part of a 3-for-4 day while Chad Fedeli and Zach Bedryczuk also drove in three runs, each, in the first game. Billy Sullivan was also 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored. Sullivan was 2-for-3 in the second game, to compile a 5-for-8 day.

On the mound, Mike Szturma earned his second-straight decision after going 5 2/3 for the Owls. Szturma scattered seven hits, and Le Moyne scored seven runs against the righty, but errors led to four unearned runs. Peter Phillips pitched the final 3 1/3 innings as he held the Dolphins on five hits while striking out three for the save.

In the second game, Steve Phillips picked up the win after spinning six innings of two-hit ball while striking out seven and allowing just one run. Tommy Hughes converted his fifth save of the season with a scoreless seventh in which he gave up a hit and struck out two.

Southern and Le Moyne will meet again on Saturday, Apr. 8 for a 12 p.m. doubleheader in Syracuse, N.Y.
