NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's soccer handed new head coach Kevin Anderson the first win of his career with the Owls as the team dominated play to the tune of a 2-0 victory against Dominican. With the win, the Owls open the year at 1-0-0 while Dominican opens at 0-1-0.

Jacob Rose and Tyler Doherty both scored for the Owls while Zico Groenveld had an assist on both goals. Alex da Cunha also picked up a point on his touch to Rose off the corner from Groenveld. Devin Juan picked up the win with a six-save shutout and was picked as the Reid Family Man of the Match. Juan now has seven shutouts for his career.
The marker was Rose's second career goal as he put the Owls in front early. Doherty, a transfer from NCAA Division I Quinnipiac, gave the Owls a 2-0 lead with his first career goal.
Prior to the start of the game, Southern Connecticut honored the memory of John DeBrito, who passed unexpectedly in 2021. DeBrito's family was on hand to present sophomore Karim Said with the inaugural John DeBrito Memorial Scholarship, and John's No. 14 jersey, which Said will wear for the rest of his career.
Southern returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 3 when it hosts University of Bridgeport at 6 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
