SCSU Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Bentley, 145-140

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's swimming & diving defeated Bentley, 145-140, in a Northeast-10 Conference showdown at Hutchinson Natatorium.
 
Drew Ladner led the Owls with wins in the 200 Free, 100 Free and 100 Butterfly. Kobe Dominguez posted a win with the 200 Yard Medley Relay team before winning the 100 and 200 Breaststroke events while Velazquez won the 200 Butterfly.

Franklin Kuhn won the 50 Freestyle, Dylan Prescher won the 500 Freestyle and JD Starkey took first place in the 200 Backstroke and 200 IM. Jayson Main won the 1 Meter event while JT Tressel won the 3 Meter event.

 

200 Yard Medley Relay
Southern's 200 Yard Medley "A" Relay of Adam Fred, Kobe Dominguez, Henry Velazquez and Franklin Kuhn won with a time of 1:37.27 while its "B" team of Collin Doyle, Nick Fournier, Jacob Tanner and Travis Scott finished third at 1:39.65.
 
1000 Yard Freestyle
Bentley took the top two spots in the 1000 Free, but Lucas Quiroga touched at 10:13.40 for third place with Samir Souidi finishing fourth at 10:21.67.
 
200 Yard Freestyle
Drew Ladner won the 200 Yard Freestyle event with a time of 1:45.60 while Dylan Prescher finished third at 1:47.85.
 
100 Yard Backstroke
Adam Fred was the Owls' top finisher in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 53.70 for second place followed by J.D. Starkey in third place at 54.17 with Colin Doyle grabbing fourth place at 54.83.
 
100 Yard Breaststroke
Kobe Dominiguez won the 100 Breaststroke event with a time of 59.28 while Nick Fournier was third at 1:02.33. Travis Scott finished fourth at 1:02.96.
 
200 Yard Butterfly
Southern won the top three spots in the 200 Fly, led by Henry Velazquez's time of 1:56.20, followed by Mike Aiello at 1:58.93 and Jacob Tanner at 2:02.41.
 
50 Yard Freestyle
Franklin Kuhn led the Owls with a first-place finish in the 50 Free with a time of 21.72 while Adam Fry placed fourth at 22.44.
 
1 Meter Diving
Jayson Main won the 1 Meter event with a score of 205.35 while JT Tressel was second at 195.45.
 
100 Yard Freestyle
Ladner picked up his second win of the afternoon in the 100 Free with a time of 47.40.
 
200 Yard Backstroke
Starkey and Doyle took the top two spots, respectively, in the 200 Back with Starkey finishing at 1:57.57 followed by Doyle at 2:02.39.
 
200 Yard Breaststroke
Kobe Dominguez picked up his second win of the afternoon with a time of 2:14.29 in the 200 Breaststroke event.
 
500 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher won the 500 Free with a time of 4:49.75. Prescher's win also clinched the meet for the Owls, who swam exhibition the rest of the way.
 
100 Yard Butterfly
Ladner picked up win No. 3 for the day with a time of 53.83 in the 100 Fly while Aiello was third at 54.89.
 
3 Meter Diving
Tressel posted an event-leading 218.95 while Main scored a 181.75.
 
200 Yard Individual Medley
Starkey grabbed his second win of the day in the 200 IM with a time of 2:01.00, beating Bentley's top finisher by :04.64.


Southern returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 14 when it hosts Saint Rose with Senior Day festivities to honor Connor Skarzynski and Collin Doyle scheduled for prior to the start of the day.
