SCSU Men's Basketball Falls To Bentley

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut men's basketball lost a Northeast-10 Conference matchup to Bentley, 72-66, at James Moore Field House. With the loss, Southern dropped to 11-5 overall and 5-5 in the conference while Bentley improved to 11-6 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Kazell Stewart led four Owls in double figures with 14 points as well as six rebounds. Josh McGettigan and Marty Silvera had 13 points each, with McGettigan adding seven rebounds and three assists while Silvera had five assists and three steals. Mason Williams came off the bench to score 11 while Cherif Diarra had eight rebounds and four blocks.



The first saw seven lead changes as both teams battled through the first 20 minutes of the game. Tied at 14-14 with 9:17 to play, Bentley took off on a 9-2 run to take a 23-16 lead with just under six minutes to play. Behind a pair of three-pointers from Marty Silvera and Mason Williams, the Owls outscored Bentley, 8-6, down the stretch and trailed by a point with under a minute to play. A three-pointer at the halftime buzzer gave the Falcons the 28-24 lead at the break.

Trailing 40-37, Southern used a 19-7 lead to take a 56-47 lead with 9:37 to play. Williams knocked down a pair of three's in the run while Silvera and Logan Bradshaw also hit from long range.  The Owls and Falcons played even over the next several minutes, with the Owls taking a leading 66-57 with 4:54 to play. From there, it was all Bentley as they went on a 15-0 run to end the game with the Falcons closing out a 72-66 win.  

Southern returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 when it hosts Franklin Pierce at James Moore Field House at 3:30 p.m.
