SCSU Men's Swimming & Diving Closes Regular Season With 49-45 Win At Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut men's swimming & diving defeated Adelphi, 49-45, in a dual meet in Garden City, N.Y. The Owls conclude the regular-season with five-straight wins, all against Northeast-10 Conference opponents, as they head into the NE10 Championships on Feb. 15, 2024.

Dylan Prescher won a pair of events – taking the 1000 Yard Freestyle and the 500 Yard Freestyle to lead the Owls. Drew Ladner won the 200 Free, J.D. Starkey took the 400 IM, Henry Velazquez won the 200 Fly and Franklin Kuhn won the 100 Free.

200 Medley Relay
Adelphi won the first event of the meet, but the Owls' 200 Yard Medley Relay team of Adam Fred, Kobe Dominguez, Henry Velazquez and Jack Fry took second with a time of 1:37.84.

1000 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher and Lucas Quiroga got the Owls back out in front in the 1000 Free. Prescher won the event with a time of 9:58.54 while Quiroga was second at 10:13.49.  

200 Yard Freestyle
Drew Ladner won the 200 Free with a time of 1:47.52 followed by Franklin Kuhn at 1:47.77, finishing 11+ seconds faster than Adelphi's top swimmer.  

50 Yard Freestyle
The 50 Free was Adelphi's event as they won the top two spots. Jack Fry was third at 22.54 while Adam Fred was fourth at 23.15.

400 Yard Individual Medley
J.D. Starkey won the 400 IM with a time of 4:16.58, just under 14 seconds better than the second-place finisher from Adelphi. Connor Skarzynski was third at 4:33.51.  

200 Yard Butterfly
Henry Velazquez captured the 200 Fly with a time of 1:55.40, edging Adelphi's top swimmer by :00.55. Michael Aiello was third at 2:02.28.  

100 Yard Freestyle
Franklin Kuhn and Drew Ladner took the top two spots in the 100 Free with Kuhn touching at 48.36 followed by Ladner at 48.46.  

200 Yard Backstroke
J.D. Starkey finished second in the 200 Back with a time of 1:56.54 followed by Collin Doyle at 2:01.60.  

500 Yard Freestyle
Dylan Prescher picked up his second win of the day in the 500 Free with a time of 4:55.12. Aiden Kennedy was second at 4:59.48. The win in the 500 Free clinched the meet for the Owls, who would swim exhibition the rest of the way.  

200 Yard Breaststroke
Kobe Dominguez finished the 200 Breaststroke at 2:16.48, which would have been good for second.  

200 Yard Freestyle Relay
The Owls' 200 Free Relay "A" of Franklin Kuhn, Adam Fred, Jack Fry and Drew Ladner posted a time of 1:29.08, which would have been good for second. The "B" team of Travis Scott, Henry Velazquez, Aiden Kennedy and Collin Doyle finished at 1:32.34.
