BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - Southern Connecticut gymnastics posted a score of 191.925 and came in fourth place against Long Island University, University of New Hampshire and Yale University. New Hampshire finished in first place with a score of 195.400, LIU came in second place with a score of 192.825 and Yale finished in third place with a score of 192.350 on Sunday, January 21.
The Owls posted multiple career-high scores in three of the events they competed in. Southern Connecticut saw its highest score of the meet, from freshman
Gigi Mastellone, where she recorded a career-high score of 9.800 and came in fourth place on the uneven bars.
Brianna Dorr recorded a career-best and team-best score on the vault of 9.750 and finished in sixth place in the event. On the balance beam,
Alexa Melanson posted a team-best score of 9.725 and came in fourth place. In the floor exercise,
Libby Allen and
Erica Beyer both recorded a team-best score of 9.725 and finished in 12th place. The balance beam was the highest scoring event for the Owls, as they recorded a total score of 48.175.
VAULT
Brianna Dorr recorded a career-best and team-best score on the vault of 9.750 and finished in sixth place in the event. Freshman
Sophia Ruecker recorded a career-high score of 9.700 and came in 13th place. Junior
Lexi Bracher posted a score of 9.675 and finished in 16th place. Sophomore
Ava Kelly recorded a score of 9.650 and finished in 17th place. Freshman
Kylie Sitty recorded a career-best score of 9.625 and finished in 18th place. The Owls finished with a total score of 48.400 on the vault.
UNEVEN/PARALLEL BARS
Freshman
Gigi Mastellone recorded the highest score on the team for the meet, in which she had a career-best score of 9.800 and came in fourth place on the uneven bars. Junior
Shreya Munshi finished in sixth place with a career-high score of 9.775.
Sophia Ruecker posted a career-best score of 9.650 and finished in 14th place. The Owls finished with a total score of 47.650 on the uneven bars.
BALANCE BEAM
Junior
Alexa Melanson posted a team-best score of 9.725 and came in fourth place on the balance beam. Freshman
Angelina Stanfa posted a career-high score of 9.675 and came in seventh place. Junior
Libby Allen recorded a score of 9.650 and finished in ninth place. Junior
Emelia Diaz recorded a score of 9.575 and finished in 12th place. Senior
Emiley Kahl posted a score of 9.550 and came in 13th place. The Owls finished with a total score of 48.175 on the balance beam, which was their highest scoring event of the meet.
FLOOR EXERCISE
Juniors
Libby Allen and
Erica Beyer both recorded a team-best score of 9.725 and both finished in 12th place. Senior
Hanna Zebdi recorded a score of 9.650 and came in 15th place. Junior
Alexa Melanson posted a score of 9.500 and finished in 18th place. The Owls finished with a total score of 47.700 in the floor exercise.
