Oliverio Scores, Troisi Blanks Molloy As SCSU Field Hockey Wins 1-0

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut field hockey picked up its first Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season, 1-0, against Molloy at Jess Dow Field. With the win, the Owls improved to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the NE10 while Molloy dropped to 1-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play.

Mia Oliverio (North Branford, Conn.) scored the Owls' only goal of the game just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Taylor Leckey handled the ball along the sideline and moved to the center of the field to fresham Lindsey Onofrio. Onofrio broke through the Molloy defense and tipped a pass to her right where Olivero one-timed a shot past the Lions' keeper to put the Owls on the board.

Lyndsay Troisi got her first career start for the Owls and subsequently picked up her first career win with a four-save shutout in the cage. In her last four games, Troisi is 1-1 with a 1.21 goals-against average and a .843 save percentage. For Oliverio, it was her first career goal and her third point of the season while Onofrio picked up her first career assist.

Southern is back in action on Friday, Oct. 4 when it hosts Saint Michael's for a NE10 matchup at 3:30 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
