SCSU Field Hockey Falls To Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — Southern Connecticut State University field hockey showed resilience in goal but could not overcome an early deficit, falling 4-0 to Adelphi University at Motamed Field.

Adelphi (11-5, 6-1 Northeast 10) set the tone immediately, scoring just 30 seconds into the contest. The Panthers made it 2-0 at the 8:03 mark.

The Owls (7-9, 3-4 NE10) absorbed sustained pressure the rest of the half. Goalkeeper Lyndsay Troisi anchored the defensive effort, recording four saves in the first quarter and five more in the second to keep the margin at 2-0 at halftime despite Adelphi generating nine penalty corners in the first half alone.

Southern Connecticut created its best offensive opportunity at 33:00 of the third quarter when midfielder Kaiya Mercier put the Owls' only shot on frame. Ruby Webb earned Southern Connecticut's lone penalty corner at 37:55.

Troisi totaled 16 saves in 60 minutes for the Owls while facing 20 shots on goal, one of her highest save totals of the season.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Nov. 1 for its final home game of the regular season when it hosts Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
