SCSU Women’s Basketball Picked Fourth in Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball was picked fourth in the 2024-25 Northeast-10 Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the NE10 on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024.
 
Southern Connecticut trailed Bentley, Assumption and Pace by the NE10 coaches' picks. The Owls were placed ahead of Southern New Hampshire, Franklin Pierce, Saint Anselm, American International, New Haven, Adelphi and Saint Michael's to conclude the 11-team conference.
 
Last season, Southern Connecticut had an overall record of 19-13 and an NE10 record of 13-9. The Owls had an impressive run in the postseason as they recorded two upset victories in the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament Quarterfinals and Semifinals, against No. 3-seeded Saint Rose and No. 2-seeded Assumption, respectively. Southern advanced to the NE10 Championship game but fell to No.1-seeded, Bentley University.
 
The Owls return majority of their players from the 2023-24 season. Graduate student Katie Williamson, who earned All-Northeast-10 Conference Second Team honors and led the team with a total of 223 rebounds and played in every game for Southern Connecticut. Graduate student Jillian Martin, who led the team with a total of 114 assists and 42 steals. Senior Delaney Haines, who played in every game for the Owls and had one of the best three-point percentages in the conference with 42.3% from beyond the arc with 43 three-pointers.
 
Junior Hope Fox, who played in 30 games for Southern and had a total of 173 points and 142 rebounds. Senior Renza Milner, who recorded a total of 94 points and 94 rebounds last season. Junior Rheyna Steinauer, who had three double-doubles and a total of 129 rebounds. Southern also added a group of freshmen and transfers to their roster for this season.
 
The Owls have two exhibitions before starting the regular season, as they will play Quinnipiac in Hamden on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 12:00 pm and they will face Providence on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in Rhode Island. Southern Connecticut opens the 2024-25 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 9 in the James Moore Field House against Georgian Court at 1:30 p.m.
