SCSU Volleyball Defeats Franklin Pierce, 3-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut volleyball defeated Franklin Pierce University, 3-1 in an NE10 matchup on Tuesday night in Pelz Gym. The Owls improved to an overall record of 4-17 and an NE10 record of 2-4, while the Ravens dropped to an overall record of 2-15 and an NE10 record of 0-7. 



Raegen Emery recorded a team-best of 13 kills, as Isabel Alvarez also had 13 kills, which was a career-best for Alvarez. Julia Jaworowski had seven kills for the Owls. Jalie Miller led the team with 14 digs, as Emery had seven and Alvarez added five of her own. 

Madi Roar had a team-best of 26 assists, while Lily Miller had 15 and Jalie Miller added three assists. For blocks, Sydney Bennett recorded six blocks, as Sarah Stark and Emery both had two. For service aces, Emery totaled five, as Emma Dedushaj and Roar had two against the Ravens. 

Franklin Pierce took the first set, with a commanding scoreline of 25-14. In the second set, the Ravens got out to an early lead; however the Owls weren't going away. Southern kept chasing the lead steadily as they tied the score at 16-16, with a kill by Raegen Emery and then took the lead with a kill by Sarah Stark. With that lead, the Owls only allowed one point from Franklin Pierce for the rest of the set. Southern Connecticut won the second set, 25-17. 

In the third set, the Ravens yet again took a quick lead but the Owls stayed with them. With a kill by Katie Bardak and a service ace by Emery, Southern took the lead. This time, Franklin Pierce made a come back through a series of points, to tie the game up at 18-18. Nevertheless, the Owls continued with their momentum to win the set, 25-19. 

In the fourth set, both teams battled each other to get the victory. Each team traded the lead, tied one another and fought hard for every point. The Owls took control with a 20-15 advantage, after huge points from Sydney Bennett, Alvarez and Emery. The Ravens worked to get within two points of the lead; however, Southern Connecticut went to record four-straight points to end the game, with a scoreline of 25-19 and a 3-1 win. 

The Owls will return to action in Manchester, N.H. on Friday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. in an NE10 matchup against Southern New Hampshire University. Southern Connecticut will honor its seniors on Senior Day, in the last home game of the season on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. in Pelz Gym against NE10 opponent, American International College.
