SCSU Men's Basketball Tops Saint Michael's 88-73

Colchester, Vt. - Southern Connecticut Men's Basketball defeated Saint Michael's 88-73, winning their first Northeast-10 Conference matchup of the 2024-25 season. They improve to 2-1 on the season, 1-0 in NE10 play.

Antonio Chandler led the Owls in scoring for the second straight game, putting up a 25-point, 13-rebound double-double. It was also his second straight double-double. In the last two games, Chandler has combined for 45 points and 25 rebounds. Sean James was dominant in the first half, scoring 13 to go along with five assists and four rebounds. He finished with 21 points, knocking down six threes on the way.

Isaac Hester and Christian McClease also reached double figures, with Hester scoring 14 and collecting eight rebounds. McClease scored 12, a career high for the freshman. Junior Albert Vargas continued to share the rock, tallying 11 assists. That gives him 20 assists over the past two games.

The Owls and Purple Knighs played an offensive, back and fourth first half that saw neither team go up by more than six. James' shooting helped keep Southern on pace with Saint Michael's, along with a string of two-man plays between Vargas and Chandler. They entered the break down two, 40-38.

Momentum shifted when the teams exited the locker rooms for the second half, with Southern coming out on fire. They opened the second half five for seven from three, stretching their lead all the way to 18. Saint Mike's did not bow out, even cutting the lead down to seven, but that was the closest it would get.

The Owls will return for their home opener, a NE10 Championship rematch versus Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:30.
