SCSU Men's Basketball Falls Against Adelphi, 80-65

Box Score GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - Southern Connecticut Men's Basketball dropped a Northeast-10 Conference battle against Adelphi, 80-65. They drop to 3-2 on the season, 2-1 in NE10 play.

The Owls, who ran out their fourth different starting lineup of the season, were led by Albert Vargas, whose 21-point performance paced the team for the second-straight game. He also added eight assists and four rebounds. Antonio Chandler came a rebound short of a double-double, dropping 12 points and nine boards, plus two blocks and a steal. Chris Joe was the third Owl in double figures, scoring 13. Christian McClease collected seven rebounds in his second-straight start.

The first half was a high-paced, back and forth affair. Neither team was effective from three, with the Owls going 4-19 and the Panthers 2-9. Adelphi found success inside, outscoring Southern 24 to 12 in the paint. Vargas' 12 first-half points helped keep the Owls within striking distance, and they entered the break down eight.

The second half saw Southern's shooting struggles continue while Adelphi heated up, extending their lead to 18. The Owls did not hang their heads, going on an incredible 14-2 run to cut the lead to six. Chandler scored six in the stretch. Southern continued to threaten, keeping within single digits with under two minutes left, but timely shot-making from the Panthers allowed them to pull away for the win.

The Owls will stay on the road as they travel to Manchester, New Hampshire to take on Saint Anselm on December 4th.
