SCSU Men's Basketball Defeats Holy Family, 65-58

Philadelphia, Pa. – Southern Connecticut Men's Basketball defeated Holy Family, 65-58 on Saturday, December 14. They improve their record to 4-4 on the season.
 
Chris Joe had his highest scoring game of the season, dropping 15 points on an efficient  6-10 from the field. He added a pair of assists, rebounds, and steals. Sean James was right behind with 14 of his own, hitting three from distance. Albert Vargas filled up the stat sheet, scoring 10 points and collecting five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Christian McClease recorded a career-high 11 rebounds, and Cherif Diarra grabbed 12 boards of his own. Diarra recorded a block and a steal, making it three straight games with at least one of each since returning from injury.
 
Both offenses got off to slows starts in the first half, with the score locked at 3-2 for the first four minutes. The Owls slowly built a lead, going up by as much as nine. They saw their lead drop to five, but a three ball from Elijah Wood with four second left gave Southern a eight point lead heading into the break. The Owls scored 11 second-chance points and 12 points off turnovers in the half.
 
Southern came out firing in the second half, going on a 9-2 run and extending their lead into double figures. They would hold that lead, eventually seeing as large as a 17 point advantage. The Owls' defense was dominant in the second half, holding the Tigers to a 38.7% field goal percentage and 27.3% from three-point range. Holy Family stayed relatively close, but ultimately, the Owls were able to secure a 65-58 victory.
 
The Owls travel up to Vermont for their next two games, taking on Daemen and Mercy in Saint Michael's Best Western Windjammer Doc Jacobs Classic on Friday, December 20th and Saturday, December 21st.
