SCSU Men's Basketball Defeat The University of New Haven, 75- 60

New Haven, CT - The Owls pick up their fifth win in a row, 75-60, sweeping the Chargers 2-0 in the regular season. The 75-60 home victory brings the Owls record to 17-7 on the year with a conference record of 11-7.

After sneaking by with an overtime win earlier in the season, the Owls pulled out the win in an exciting fashion this time around. The Owls jumped out to an 8-0 start and shot the ball substantially well in the first half shooting a 60.71% from the field while shooting 8-13 from behind the arch. The explosive offense eventually led to an Owls 26 point lead heading into the half. They would continue the momentum into the second half stretching the lead to as much as 32 points. After a late run from the Chargers the Owls would finish with the 15 point victory. Defense was a major part in the Owls victory with 22 points coming off of 11 turnovers. Christian Joe led the Owls defensively accounting for five of the Owls nine steals, tying a career high.

Mason Williams put up a season 19 points, leading the Owls in scoring on 7-11 shooting with five made from beyond the arch. Cherif Diarra also recorded his second straight double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Diarra has put up a double double in three of his last five games and is averaging 12.5 points and 10.6 rebounds over that five game stretch, all in which the Owls are 5-0.

Owls point guard Marty Silvera also put up a solid game for the Owls with eight points, six assists, and two steals which not only assisted in the big win but also establishes him as third in the country in both steals and assists.

The Owls will look to extend their win streak against Saint Michael's College on Saturday, February 17th at 3:30 PM in Colchester,VT.
