WALTHAM, MA. - Southern Connecticut women's basketball fell to Bentley University, 72-57, in the regular season finale on Tuesday night. Southern dropped to an overall record of 16-12, and an NE10 record of 13-9. Bentley improved to an overall record of 23-5 and an NE10 record of 18-4.
Katie Williamson had a team-best of 16 points, shot 8-for-13 from the floor and grabbed four rebounds.
Rheyna Steinauer recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 points, a team-best of 10 rebounds and made five free-throws against the Falcons.
Makenzie Helms had 11 points, four assists and grabbed two rebounds.
Julianna Bonilla recorded nine points, a team-best of three three-pointers and four rebounds.
Jillian Martin had eight points, a team-best of six assists and a team-best of three steals.
In the first quarter, Southern and Bentley went back and forth in the regular-season finale as the Owls worked hard to take a close lead of 13-12. In the second quarter, the battle continued once again and it was an even score of 31-31 going into the half.
Katie Williamson started the scoring off for the Owls, with a jumper in the third quarter. However, Bentley made the most of their possessions and took a 10-point lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter, the Owls started their comeback with a jump shot by
Katie Williamson and a fast-break jumper by
Jillian Martin. However, the Falcons started to pull away again and never looked back as they finished with a victory over the Owls.
The sixth-seeded Owls will host 11th seed and Elm-City rival, University of New Haven on Friday, March 1 at 5:00 p.m. in the James Moore Field House in the First Round of the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament. Tickets for the game will be $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and youth under 18 and free for NE10 students with valid ID.
