SCSU Women's Basketball Falls To Saint Rose On The Road, 54-43

ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball lost to College of Saint Rose, 54-43, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup in Albany, N.Y. With the loss, Southern dropped to 11-10 overall and 8-7 in the NE10 while Saint Rose improved to 15-4 overall and 11-4 in conference play.

Katie Williamson posted her fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds as well as four steals. Jillian Martin had seven points and a team-best seven assists while Mackenzie Helms had eight points, four rebounds and a pair of assists.



The game opened with Saint Rose on a 12-2 run before the Owls closed out the first quarter with a 6-0 run of their own, to cut Saint Rose's lead to 12-8, over the final 5:34 of the first frame with Williamson scoring twice. Southern scored the first five points of the second quarter, to extend their two-period run to 11-0, as the Owls led 13-12 with 6:40 to play. Saint Rose countered with an 8-0 run to take a 20-13 before Hope Fox knocked down a three-pointer to make it a four-point game, 20-16. The two teams traded baskets as they went to the break with the Golden Knights leading, 24-20.

In the second half, Saint Rose pushed its lead to double digits, 32-22, as they outscored the Owls, 8-2, over the first 2:18 of the third quarter. The teams started the fourth quarter with the Golden Knights holding onto a 41-32 lead. A Fox three-point play and a Helms floater pulled the Owls within six, 43-37, with 6:24 to play. Saint Rose answered with an 8-2 run to take a 51-37 lead and held on for the 10-point win, 53-43.

Southern will look to get back on track on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when it hosts Pace for a NE10 matchup at 5:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
