NEWARK, Dela. – Southern Connecticut women's volleyball split their two matches, as they picked up their first victory of the season against Holy Family, 3-1 and dropped their first match vs. Jefferson, 3-0, at the 2024 Wildcat Invitational in Wilmington, Delaware. The Jefferson Rams improved to 3-4, the Tigers dropped to 2-3 and the Owls improved to an overall record of 1-5 on the season.
In the first match of the day, the Owls fell 3-0 to Jefferson, as freshmen
Isabel Alvarez and
Julia Jaworowski led the team with eight kills.
Raegen Emery also led the team with seven digs, as
Lily Miller led the team with two service aces. For blocks, Emery,
Sydney Bennett and
Sarah Stark each had a team-best of two blocks.
Madi Roar recorded a team-best of 15 assists as
Lily Miller had 11 assists against the Rams.
In the second match of the day, Southern Connecticut won their first match of the 2024 season by beating Holy Family, 3-1.
Raegen Emery had her second double-double as an Owl, as she recorded a team-best of 17 kills and 11 digs.
Dylan Marney led the team with a career-high of six service aces,
Lily Miller added a career-high of five aces and Emery had four aces.
Madi Roar totaled a career-high of 26 assists, as
Lily Miller finished closely behind with 13 assists. For digs,
Dylan Marney led the Owls with 12 as
Jalie Miller notched a career-best of 11 digs. In blocks,
Sydney Bennett had a career-best of five blocks, Emery had four blocks and
Isabel Alvarez recorded two blocks against Holy Family.
In the first set, Holy Family closely won, with a tight scoreline of 29-27 over the Owls. In the second set, Southern came roaring back with a score of 25-22, stopping the comeback of the Tigers. In the third set, the Owls dominated with a score of 25-10 over Holy Family. In the fourth and final set, Southern Connecticut kept going with their momentum as they finished out the match with a score of 25-15 and a 3-1 victory.
The Owls return to the court on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 11:30 a.m. against host of the 2024 Wildcat Invitational, Wilmington University, in Newark, Delaware.
