SCSU Women's Basketball Cruises To 76-55 Win Against UNH As Fox Scores 29

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University women's basketball posted a 21-point win against Elm City rival University of New Haven as the Owls cruised to a 76-55 win. With the win, which is the Owls' seventh-straight, Southern improved to 14-2 overall and 7-2 in the NE10 while New Haven dropped to 10-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.

Hope Fox had a career game as she led the Owls with an all-time best 29 points, as well as five rebounds and two steals. Fox converted on 8-of-12 from the floor and 12-for-14 from the free throw line. Katie Williamson posted her second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds with three assists and two blocks. The Owls had four players in double figures as Delaney Haines tallied 13 points and five assists and Rheyna Steinauer netting 11 points, including a three at the buzzer to end the third quarter.



Southern opened the game with a 15-0 run, led by an eight-point outburst by Hope Fox to open the game. After New Haven used a 7-2 run to cut Southern's lead to 17-7, Lyzi Litwinko knocked a jumper down to send the Owls to the first intermission with a 12-point lead, 19-7.

Leading 27-17 in the second quarter, UNH scored six-straight points to cut Southern's lead to 27-23 with 3:04 to play in the half. Southern managed to push its lead back into double figures and head to halftime with a 33-23 lead. Fox accounted for 16 of the Owls' 33 points after hitting on 4-of-6 from the floor and 7-of-7 from the free throw line in the first 20 minutes.

Coming out of the half, UNH pulled within five points, 33-28, in the opening minute. Both teams went back and forth before Haines knocked down a three-pointer to give Southern a 42-34 lead with 4:46 to go. Southern then laid down a 10-2 run to take a 49-36 lead with 2:26 left in the quarter, but UNH countered by outscoring the Owls, 6-5, and sending the game to the fourth quarter with Southern leading, 54-42.

Southern opened the fourth with a 7-2 run, with five points coming from Steinauer, to take a 15-point lead, 61-46, with 7:53 to play. The Owls then kept the Chargers at a distance down the stretch, outscoring New Haven 15-9, to seal the 76-55 win.

Southern continues NE10 play when it travels to Rindge, N.H. to take on Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Owls return home on Wednesday, Jan. 22 to host Adelphi at 5:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
