SCSU Men's Basketball Knocks Down 18 Threes to Defeat Franklin Pierce, 105-74

Rindge, N.H. - Southern Connecticut Men's Basketball defeated Franklin Pierce 105-74, knocking down 18 threes and scoring a season-high in points. Five Owls ended in double-figures. 

The Owls were dominant offensively, scoring the second-highest total in a Northeast-10 game this year. They went 18-37 (48.6%) from deep, which ties the second most made in a game in the NE10, and shot 41-78 overall, good for 52.6%. Isaac Hester led the way with 21 points, going 5-7 from downtown and also throwing six assists. Albert Vargas scored 17 (3-6 from three), also chipping in with four boards and two assists, and Chris Joe (3-4 from three) scored 15 and collected four assists and four rebounds off the bench. Elijah Wood added 14 points, also off the bench, knocking down four threes, and Antonio Chandler had his sixth double-double of the year, scoring 11 and grabbing 13 rebounds against his former school. Every Owl who played scored, including Sage Gatling, who scored his first career points. 



After some back and forth scoring, the Ravens jumped out to the first multi-possession lead of the game, going up 14-9 at the 11:49 mark in the first half. The Owls came storming back, behind a 10 straight points off the bench from Chris Joe, to lead 19-16. Franklin Pierce punched back, byt then Antonio Chandler and Christian McClease scored six straight to put the Owls up seven. Chandler dominated the boards, grabbing 10 rebounds at the 6:47 mark in the first half. Isaac Hester then caught fire from deep, knocking down a trio of threes in the final six minutes to put the Owls up 15 leading into the break. He scored 16 in the half on 5-6 from the field and 4-5 from deep. 

The Owls came out of the break firing, with Albert Vargas and Hester combining for a 7 points in just over 90 seconds. The Ravens did not go away, but key makes from Vargas, Hester, Evan Gutowski, and Elijah Wood kept the lead around 20 points. The Owls jumped ahead by 29 after a solo 9-0 run from Wood, knocking down three straight threes. The shots continued to fall, with Makai Coleman jumping in on the action, as the Owls knocked down 15 threes for the second straight game. Thw Owls would finish the day 18-37 (48.6%) from long range, the most made in a game this season, and scored a season-high in points en route to a 105-74 win. 

The Owls return to New Haven for their next matchup against Adelphi on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7:30pm.
