SCSU Men's Basketball Falls To No. 7 Pace

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Southern Connecticut State University men's basketball lost to No. 7 Pace, 91-58, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at James Moore Field House. With the loss, Southern dropped to 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the NE10 while Pace improved to 13-0 overall and 5-0 in conference play.

Christian McClease scored a career-high 22 points with six rebounds while also knocking down a career-high four three-pointers in the game. Makai Coleman totaled 10 points while Cherif Diarra had seven points, seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals.



McClease gave the Owls an early boost as he knocked-down three-straight three-pointers to give Southern an early 12-11 lead in the first five minutes of the game. Pace responded with a 10-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 11:28 to go in the half. Sean James knocked down a three followed by a free throw from Diarra to pull the Owls within five, 21-16. Pace outscored Southern, 28-10, over the final 11 minutes of the half to take a 49-26 lead into halftime. McClease led the Owls with 14 points in the first half.

The second saw the Owls fight back late but the Setters outscored Southern, 42-32, in the final 20. Coleman posted a career-best 10 points in the second half to lead the Owls while McClease chipped in eight points in the second frame. Trailing 91-42, the Owls put together a 16-2 run over the last five minutes of the game with Coleman scored eight of his 10 points in the run.

Southern is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 5 when it faces Assumption at 3:30 p.m. at James Moore Field House.
