SCSU Women’s Basketball Falls to Bentley, 75-54

WALTHAM, Mass. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball fell to Bentley, 75-54, on Saturday. The Falcons improved to an overall record of 18-1 and an NE10 record of 10-1. The Owls dropped to an overall record of 15-4 and an NE10 record of 8-4.
 
Jillian Martin and Delaney Haines both led the team with 10 points each. Both made a team-best of two three-pointers, as Martin was 4-for-6 from the floor, had three boards and had two assists. Ally Sentance had nine points, as she shot 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, had three rebounds and two assists.


 
Hope Fox had eight points, was 2-for-2 from the free-throw line, led the team with a team-best of three assists, three boards and two steals. Renza Milner had six points, with a team-best of two blocks. Katie Williamson added five points with two boards and a steal. Lyzi Litwinko had four points, as she shot 100% from the free-throw line and had three boards. Rheyna Steinauer led the team with four rebounds and an assist against the Falcons.
 
In the first quarter, Jillian Martin got the Owls' scoring going with a three-pointer and an assist by Hope Fox. Martin was a perfect 2-for-2 from the three-point line in the first quarter alone. It was a back-and-forth game for both teams throughout the quarter. Southern trailed Bentley by six points with a minute left, but made free-throws from Lyzi Litwinko and Ally Sentance, cut the Falcons' lead to just three. Southern was 4-for-6 from beyond the arc as a team.
 
In the second quarter, Martin made a layup to cut the lead to one point within the first minute of play. Bentley then would take another five-point lead but Delaney Haines a three-pointer and a jumper to tie the game at 24-24. Southern Connecticut played good defense throughout the quarter as Bentley continued to toughen out made baskets for the lead. With a minute left, Renza Milner made a layup and seconds later, Hope Fox made a jumper in the paint right before halftime. Bentley headed into the second half with a close 34-33 advantage over Southern.
 
In the third quarter, it was all the Falcons as they were perfect from the floor, building a double-digit lead over Southern. In the fourth quarter, the Owls looked to make a comeback, but Bentley never lost control of the lead and got the victory.
 
The Owls will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m. for an NE10 matchup against Pace University in Pleasantville, NY. Southern will return to the Moore Field House on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. against Saint Michael's College in NE10 action.
