SCSU Women’s Basketball Defeats Pace, 58-46

PLEASANTVILLE, NY. – Southern Connecticut women's basketball defeated Pace University, 58-46 on the road on Tuesday. The Owls improved to an overall record of 16-4 and an NE10 record of 9-4 while the Setters dropped to an overall record of 11-10 and an NE10 record of 7-6.
 
Hope Fox led the team with 16 points, with 12 of them coming in the second half. Fox had eight rebounds, was 5-for-10 from the floor, was 6-for-8 from the free-throw line, had a team-best of three steals and had three assists. Katie Williamson had her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 boards. Additionally, Williamson had a team-best of three blocks and an assist. Delaney Haines had 11 points, as she was 5-for-10 from the floor, had four assists and a steal. Jillian Martin recorded nine points, had a team-best of five assists and had two steals against Pace.


 
In the first quarter, the Owls started off strong with an 8-0 run within the first two minutes of play.  Katie Williamson had eight points, as she was 4-for-4 from the floor as Delaney Haines recorded seven points. Pace put some points back on the board, but it was Southern who finished out the quarter with a lead of 25-13. As a team, the Owls shot 12-for-16 from the floor.
 
In the second quarter, Jillian Martin got the scoring going for Southern with a three-pointer and an assist by Hope Fox. It was a defensive battle between both teams, with a total of 13 points scored between the two. A three-pointer by Haines and a jumper by Fox, allowed the Owls to take a 32-17 with two minutes left. The Setters finished out the half with two made free-throws to cut the Owls' lead to 32-19.
 
In the third quarter, Southern jumped to a quick 4-0 run, with two good jumpers by Williamson and Martin. The physical, defensive battle continued for the Setters and Owls in the third. As Fox, Williamson and Haines knocked down key shots to keep Southern in control of the lead.
 
In the fourth quarter, Hope Fox dominated the court with nine points for the Owls. The Setters were fighting to make a comeback late in the quarter, cutting the lead down to just 12. However, Fox hit two free-throws with seconds left to keep the advantage in favor of Southern, as they picked up a conference victory of 58-46.
 
The Owls will return home to the Moore Field House on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. against Saint Michael's College in NE10 action.
