SCSU Field Hockey Defeats St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-1

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut State University field hockey defeated St. Thomas Aquinas, 3-1, in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on the road. With the win, the Owls improved to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in the NE10 while the Spartans dropped to 3-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play.

Isabella Fölster had a goal and an assists while Taylor Leckey and Natalia Fiato also scored for the Owls. Rachel Miller picked up the win in goal for Southern after stopping two of St. Thomas Aquinas' three shots on goal. Leckey also added her team-leading sixth defensive save of the season.

Fölster scored the first goal of the game just six minutes into regulation but the Spartans answered less than two minutes later. After a scoreless second and third quarters, the Owls struck early in the fourth.
The Owls were quick to get on the board in the final period as Leckey and Fiato both converted in the first three minutes, on the Owls' first two shots of the frame. Leckey's goal was her team-leading 10th of the year, with Fölster picking up her third assist of the season on the play. Fiato's goal was her fourth of the year, a new career best for the senior Owl.

Southern is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 14 when it travels to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. to take on Mercy at 2 p.m. The Owls return home to host Saint Anselm on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Jess Dow Field.
