SCSU Women's Soccer Defeats Pace 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's soccer defeated Pace 2-1, picking up their first conference victory. The Owls improve to 3-7-3 on the season. 

Nicky Deslauriers and Elizabeth Bishop both scored their second goals of the season, with Deslauriers converting on her second penalty shot. Abby Aughe tallied six saves in net. 

The Owls kicked off the scoring early, taking a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute. After a few chances, Southern was able to maintain possession close to Pace's net. A deflected ball bounced back to Aries Bell, who sent a beautiful ball into the box. Elizabeth Bishop converted, heading the ball past the Setters' keeper for her second career score. Bell, who debuted in 2021, picked up her first career goal and played a career high in minutes at 79. 

Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the first half, with Abby Aughe picking up three saves, including an incredible diving effort to her right side. 

Southern scored again shortly after halftime to take a 2-0 lead. The Owls applied plenty of pressure to start the half, eventually forcing a handball in the box. Nicky Deslauriers drilled the ensuing penalty kick, tallying her second penalty score of the year. The goal also marked the tenth of her collegiate career. 

The Setters were eventually able to squeeze one past Aughe in the 83rd minute, but the Owls held on to secure the victory. 

Southern returns home to take on Franklin Pierce this Sunday, October 26th at 1:00 p.m.
