SCSU Women's Soccer Drops Game to Saint Anselm

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Southern Connecticut women's soccer dropped a Northeast 10 Conference battle against Saint Anselm, 3-2. The Owls drop to 2-6-3 on the season. 

Julia Hargraves and Nicky Deslauriers both found the back of the net for Southern, with Hargraves scoring her first career goal. Bella LaPerle picked up her first assist of the year, and Abby Aughe tallied five saves. 

The Owls jumped out to an early start, taking a 1-0 just before the 15 minute mark. Nicky Deslauriers drew a foul just outside the side of the box, and Julia Hargraves sent the free kick past the Hawks' goalkeeper with a beautiful bending shot into the upper right corner of the net. The goal marked the first of Hargraves' collegiate career. 

Saint Anselm responded in the 35th minute, scoring off of a corner kick. Southern's offense bounced back quickly. Bella LaPerle broke away down the center of the field, then found Nicky Deslauriers at the edge of the box. Deslauriers beat her defender, then netted her second goal of the year to give the Owls a 2-1 lead heading into the half. 

Southern's offense came out of the gates hot to start the second half, but were unable to score their third goal. Saint Anselm adjusted and found their stride, netting two goals in the 69th and 73rd mintutes despite numerous highlight saves from Abby Aughe. The Hawks would close out the game to win 3-2. 

The Owls return to action next week when they travel to take on Post in an out-of-conference matchup on Tuesday, October 14th.
