Six Owls Score As SCSU Field Hockey Tops Molloy, 7-1

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – Southern Connecticut field hockey defeated Molloy, 7-1, in a Northeast 10 Conference matchup in Rockville Centre, N.Y. With the win the Owls improved to 8-7 overall and 5-4 in the NE10 while Molloy dropped to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in conference play.

Taylor Leckey led the Owls with a goal and three assists while freshman standout Isabella Folster had a goal and two assists. Natalia Fiato added two goals while Ruby Webb had a goal and an assist. Keana Criscuolo scored her first of the season and freshman Jessica Nodell scored her first career goal.

For Leckey, she now stands at 11 goals and eight assists for the year and is one of two 30-point scorers in the NE10. Leckey is the only NE10 student-athlete to rank in the top-three in both goals and assists and also leads the conference with eight defensive saves. Folster is close behind with eight goals and six assists for 22 points while Fiato now has six goals on the year.

Criscuolo put the Owls on the board just under five minutes into the game when she chipped in a rebound off a shot by Leckey. Just before the end of the first quarter, Leckey ripped a pass across the crease to Webb to give the Owls a 2-0 lead. Three minutes later, Leckey found the scoring column to give Southern a three-goal lead.

Fiato gave Southern a 5-0 lead with back-to-back goals before halftime, with the second coming on a pass from Folster. Down the stretch, Nodell converted off a corner piece when a pass from Leckey was one-timed on goal by Folster before Nodell tipped it in. Folster scored minutes later on a pass by Webb to cap the Owls' scoring.

Rachel Miller got the start and didn't see a shot on goal in the first half before giving way to freshman Lyla O'Connor at halftime. The freshman goalkeeper stopped two of Molloy's three shots on goal.

Southern is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 when it travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Southern New Hampshire at 3 p.m. The Owls then close the regular season at home against Pace on Tuesday, Oct. 28 and Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Nov. 1.
